Athena
Real Name: Tiana Marinos
Age: 300+
Nationality: Greek
Height: 5’5
Weight: 116lbs
Power: Healing Hands

Background:

Early Life:
Athena appears as a woman in her mid-20s but in fact she is around 300 years old. She has by far the earliest known occurrence of super powers on the planet with her amazing healing hands. While placing her hands on a wound of some sort will heal it almost instantly it seems as if her very essence is the epitome of health. Over the course of her life she never became ill and once she reached adulthood ceased to age also. She was brought up by a group of women. She has no recollection of a father or any male influence in her life. Her band of mothers taught her a lot of fine traits such as kindness and generosity, that upbringing coupled with the wisdom of her age makes her a very serene individual. In around 1750 she left the place where she was brought up in an effort to integrate with the wider world. The difficulty she frequently encountered was that her ageless body would become a talking point after a period of time, and so after roughly 10 years in one place she would relocate and devise a new identity. This could often be painful as it meant breaking ties with good friends, there was also a continual feeling of loss as she would hear of people she once knew growing old and dying. In the main she worked in the medical profession as a nurse, quietly aiding the sick with her powers and leaving the credit of miraculous recoveries to the Doctors. However she also travelled the world extensively and participated in a great deal of higher learning, she can speak every major language fluently and accent perfect. Her most recent role is ‘Tiana Marinos’, this is the identity she was using when she first contacted Elite Force about her powers, again as Tiana she was a nurse in Nicosia, Cyprus when she heard of a new unit bringing newly found super powered individuals together for the good of justice and democracy.

Elite Force:
Athena approached Elite Force early in its existence. At this point it had few recruits of the standard it required. Athena changed all that. She was able to display her powers very easily by cutting herself and using her hands to heal the wound in seconds. Elite Force to this point contained largely overly strong recruits who they had yet to train, someone with such a useful almost magical power was of great use to them. Athena was the first poster girl of the unit, regularly visiting the troops of democratic forces in war zones and healing where she could. It did bring its own burdens however, Elite Force would run a tight touring schedule and she did not have the time to heal all that she could, equally she would be inundated with begging letters to restore the health of people all over the world, the fact she could not left Athena feeling very guilty and tied her to Elite Force even more in the hope they would work to prevent conflicts. As time went by her use in public relations overtook her time to heal the sick. She was the soft side of the unit, a face people could trust and someone who was doing good without doubt. The time that PR took from healing did trouble Athena, there was no doubt she was an almighty marketing tool. Athena was generally very popular but there were campaigns from some fanatical religious groups to defame her as a false idol. Many had viewed her efforts as almost Christ-like (something which Elite Force was happy to play up) and the Christian church in particular were keen that these staged healings were stopped. In the past 2 years Athena has taken a step back from the PR front but is still a highly popular member of the unit and is likely the hardest of all to criticise. The Force has been keen to show its strength recently which is not something Athena is really good for. Instead they have looked to the sheer might of Miss Freedom to front most public relations exercises with Athena just over her shoulder offering clarity where needed, Athena has always been keen to support this however.

Operative Use:
Athena is a non-combatant member of the force. She did receive basic fight training when she joined but to this point no enemy has proven strong enough to fulfil the need to place her in a battle as it happens. She has healed team-mates from Elite Force bases after a fight of course. She deals with the occasional cut of cracked rib but nothing too taxing. This gives her a lot of time to work on the all important PR side of the Force, acting as an excellent counter-balance to her friend Miss Freedom who will often speak with gusto about ‘Victory’ and ‘Justice’ while Athena will defend any Elite Force actions more eloquently on the basis of the good they are likely to do. Athena is not a pacifist – she believes in right and wrong, good and bad, and she believes in the missions of Elite Force.

Psychology:
Athena is a well rounded, level-headed character, possibly due to the wisdom that has accrued over her long life. She does maintain a youthful outlook however and has avoided cynicism. Athena believes in doing good and she believes in Elite Force as a power to spread goodness. It causes her some anguish that she cannot heal everybody and for some time questioned whether the PR element to her job was detracting from trying to help people. She has now reconciled these questions with the belief that her mere existence provides the inspiration for others in their lives, doing far more good than she could as an individual. The last few years have been a peaceful time but she does hold out hopes of assisting her team mates whenever possible. It is troubling to her that she is never placed in the peril they regularly find themselves in, even if they can get out of it relatively easily. Athena is dedicated and loyal, she has been mistakenly considered naïve, but in truth her ability to see the bigger picture enables her to quickly forgive the basic misdemeanours of others, she is very trusting and believes strongly in the good of humanity.

Miss Freedom Profile

Miss Freedom
Real Name: Tamara Steel
Age: 22
Nationality: American
Height: 5’8
Weight: 250lbs (bone density)
Power: Extreme Strength & Damage Resistance

Background:

Early Life:
Tamara Steel was born in late 1987 to David and Katrina Steel, a young married couple living in Southern California. The world Tamara was brought into was comfortably middle-class. Church on Sundays, a strong social circle and what would amount to a very happy upbringing for any normal child. Tamara was not a normal child. At age 2 her mother heard loud noises resembling some kind of electrical energy surge coming from the sky. It was not raining outside and although the noises were just as loud as thunder they came without lightening. David was away on business so alone she checked on her little girl and noticed to her horror that the child was not in her crib, she searched the house and then frantically called the police, the thunderous noises had since stopped. When the police arrived she left the house to greet them with a picture of Tamara. After some discussion on the front lawn one of the policemen looked up to see the child stood on the roof of the two-storey house. Tamara was not moving but transfixed on the sky. The police carefully retrieved her, much to the relief of Katrina. In passing before they left, Katrina mentioned the strange thunderstorm she had encountered, the police looked up at the stars on one of the clearest nights of the year and suggested that perhaps Katrina had dreamed it. After this incident Tamara was very quiet for several months, her parents had tests done to try to get to the bottom of her behaviour. In the course of these tests doctors found the child weighed significantly more than average children her age yet outwardly did not display signs of fat build up. It was later discovered that she possessed an astonishing bone density, far higher than anything previously seen in any grown adult. This reason was at first given for her unusual strength, carrying such a heavy skeleton around advancing her musculature. This excuse became inadequate however once Tamara began displaying amazing strength feats like crushing metal, breaking furniture and toys effortlessly. By 4 years of age she was stronger than both of her parents and was very hard for them to control. Tamaras existence had alerted the United States government and a deal was done with the parents that they could test her for a few days a month in return for everything she needed. She received the best education and was convinced to keep her power a secret in return for anything she wanted. This went some way to spoiling the young lady, who was firmly sold on the idea that she was special. Her life was very comfortable and in return she was regularly tested. These tests were often to do with strength but since her muscles were so powerful she moved much faster than other people, she jumped much higher and further too and had an almost bulletproof exterior which could not be penetrated by typical weapons. She only felt pain at the extreme edge of testing and this would result in whomever caused it to regret their actions! An angry Tamara was not something which anybody wished to get in the way of. She was a supremely confident teenager and despite her powers remaining a secret it was clear she had more of everything than her peers. She was very popular at school for her good looks and forceful strength of character.

Elite Force:
By 2006 Elite Force had been running for several years with some considerable success, their backers were generally pleased with what they were doing and although member states had political wranglings over what to do with force members over issues such as the Iraq war, the future of the force was not really in doubt. It was at this point that the US government put forward Tamara Steel as a member of the unit. Unknown to Elite Force at the time apart from some idle chatter that the US government might be cherry-picking super-powered humans from within its borders, the units training chiefs were astonished by her power. She was far stronger than anyone currently on their books, there was no way to harm her within even their relaxed safety parameters. Her good looks and engaging personality also made her a terrific candidate to head the unit. At first she was sent on missions with Powerstar, these missions were very easy for Tamara with the threat neutralised before Powerstar had a chance to act. Tamara was a whirlwind of success and with the prompting of the US government was set up as a leader for the unit and given the moniker of ‘Miss Freedom’ a young woman who stood up for the unbeatable principles of justice and democracy. Before long posters and billboards proclaiming her might and grace sprang up everywhere. She became a media darling, particularly back home, and was soon the ultimate celebrity. Miss Freedom became closely associated with Michael Sampson the head of the unit, who in her saw an opportunity to become much bigger than the current remit. Tamara loved what being in Elite Force brought her, but she was almost unaware of what it stood for. Whenever she was asked a political question she would answer in her own voice, using her own opinion, which often lacked the sophistication or the care the force had been known for. Sampson would chide her for this from time to time, but so taken was he with her as an asset she never really became trained in the right things to say or do. Intellectuals hated her, but any criticism of Miss Freedom herself would bring a storm cloud to their door and so she was left as ever to do as she pleased.

Operative Use:
Miss Freedom is the units de facto leader, and their most powerful operative. To date no conflict has remotely fazed her. Regularly she is sent in to mop up altercations which have been fought by lower ranking members who may be struggling, she is then quick to press the PR button and make her involvement known as well as espousing her core beliefs in freedom. Many conflicts have been averted by the threat of sending Miss Freedom to resolve them, her power is greatly respected globally and within the unit.

Psychology:
Miss Freedom knows that she is the best, she is very comfortable with this and does not see it as a pressure or burden. Her supreme self-confidence often crosses over into arrogance and although this hasn’t undone her yet it may only be a matter of time. Miss Freedom rates her intelligence highly also but she does over-estimate on this point. By no means stupid she is however inclined to miss the detail and see most things in black or white, good or evil.

Jade Vendetta Profile

•June 19, 2010 • Leave a Comment

Jade Vendetta AKA ‘Jade the Blade’
Real Name: Jenevieve Vielle
Age: 30
Nationality: French
Height: 5’5
Weight: 126lbs
Power: Supreme Focus
Faction: Red Mist

Background:

Early Life:

Jenevieve Vielle was born on February 29th 1980 in Reims, France. She was an unplanned child, her father was in his fifties and her mother well into her forties. She had two elder brothers Jaye and Dace. Both in their twenties, they ran local gangs at a strong profit, much greater than their father achieved whom they both succeeded in the family ‘business’. The brothers had profited from the new drugs trade building upon their interests in Casinos throughout North-East France. Regulations on gambling were quite draconian at this time in France which led to a greater emphasis being placed on illegal activities to maintain family income. The brothers did well as they paid everybody who needed to be paid and ruled with the carrot rather than the stick. They both doted on their little sister and she had a great relationship with them. Besides that her childhood wasn’t particularly happy as a result of very strict and aloof parents, especially her mother whose physical punishments could be particularly cruel. Her mother was an ‘alpha-female’ in the sense that not only did she dominate her household but she also dominated community affairs in the locality and constantly argued with her sons about how to run things. Jenevieve learnt some important lessons from her mother in formative years such as the need to stand up for herself but she would not like any similarities between them to be made known. In 1994 both of her brothers were killed by members of their own gang, supposed friends. Jen took this very hard and vowed revenge on the perpetrators. From that point on she would only answer to the first name of Jade, as it was an amalgamation of her beloved brothers names and possibly because of her fascination with far-eastern culture.

ASIDE: Her brothers were killed because their mother had gone over their heads and sent messages to gang members they were having trouble with that they would be killed if they didn’t shape up. These gang members were not motivated by this and pre-empted their own murders by killing the brothers and going into hiding. Although Jades mother did not mean for this outcome it was her fault. Jade does not know this, all she sees is a disloyal gang who were always treated well showing violence and taking liberties. Therefore she grew closer to her mothers way of dealing with people, stick not carrot.

Powers:

Jenevieve was highly intelligent and excelled at school. She had an uncanny ability to enter almost a trance-like state where she would silently absorb the information and be capable of repeating all the necessary facts by heart. She could block out all distractions from any goal or purpose. She was not simply an academic either but a keen sportswoman. Her excellent grades and the family’s wealth afforded her the finest education money could buy. At the age of 11 she tried Fencing for the first time and was astonishingly good. It was as if she had all the time in the world to move away from her opponents striking and perfectly time her own attacks. This was not luck but the continued development of her super-ability. Fencing was a noble art but her interest deviated to all kinds of weaponry, she was particularly fascinated by far-eastern culture; Samurai swords and the like. At age 18 she took a year out from her studies and moved to Japan. There she trained with various master at arms and her innate abilities enabled her to best them within weeks of training. Her powers developed to the point of extreme reflexes and focus, and an ability to learn pretty much anything vastly quicker than a normal person.

University:

Jade studied languages at Cambridge University in England. The course was chosen as her ability allowed her to master complex languages in a few weeks. This left her spare time to master her weaponry while others studied. It was at Cambridge that she met Nathaniel Goldman, heir to a billion pound sterling fortune. A Jewish family whose interests started in Oil but by this point was largely involved in banking. Jade was besotted by his natural charm and was soon to buy into his politics. Nathaniel believed in philosophies such as Eugenics and the teachings of Nietzsche as regards ‘Ubermensch’. These kinds of philosophies mixed with Jade’s personal experience of her brothers murders at the hands of effectively their servants made for a powerful cocktail. For the good of all those who are meant to rule should do so in peace without answering to the common man continually.

Adult-Life:

Jade’s first key act as an adult was to root out and kill her brothers murderers. It had been 8 years since the killings and the perpetrators no longer expected any revenge attacks. They were wrong. Jade used private investigators to track them down but carried out the murders herself, tearing out their intestines with dual Katanas, her weapons of choice. With her fathers health failing (he was now 80 years old) she assumed control of the families interests. Their business interests had also declined in the years since the death of Jaye and Dace. Jades father did not understand the activities they had advocated and so ignored them returning solely to gambling but this was also in a new age that he was too old to understand and the casinos were not pulling in the punters they once were. Jade sold all of the casinos for capital and invested it where Goldman told her to. This was a big success and by 2006 the families wealth had tripled. Playing businesswoman was not enough for Jade and with a few nods and winks from her powerful Jewish friend she became involved in Freemasonry, France being almost the only country where mixed gender lodges meet. From there she could see many things not apparent to the general public, things which fed her political persuasions to the point of fanatical belief. The contacts made there enabled her to take an active role in changing any system she disliked. One such system was Elite Force.

Relationship with Elite Force:

To Jade, Elite Force was a reasonable idea that went badly wrong. The need for a globalised peace-keeping force that actually did something was strong, and one that she could support, however things had changed. Too much emphasis was placed on individual characters within the organisation and PR seemed to be of paramount importance. It was necessary to hold some public trust, just so there are less obstacles, but Elite Force was now more popular than the governments it was helping to maintain. Elite Force should have been about enforcing the rule of law and the will of government, not pandering to the schizophrenic public view. Jade also deeply resented the famed individual members of the organisation. ‘Purity in an Impure World’ is all well and good, but not if it is dirty to begin with. She had innate abilities at least the equal of most members of Elite Force, it wasn’t right that they should have such influence and not her. It was around this time that she heard through the grapevine about a replacement organisation of beings with super abilities who stuck rigidly to rule of law and protection of government. It was not a popularity contest but a serious business. She was able to apply for membership to this new group due to friends of friends knowing the person in charge, after demonstrating her abilities and showing her staunch and compatible opinions she was admitted into the new group, codename: RED MIST. Upon entering she had to agree to cease all communication with Masonic lodges in France and hand over day to day charge of her business to someone else. She was told to await orders and that these orders cannot be questioned. This sat fine with Jade as she was convinced this group held her exact belief system and could do what was necessary to achieve its goals. In the meantime she has been training and honing her skills for whenever she is called. Her personal codename within RED MIST is ‘Vendetta’.

Psychology Overview:

Jade is more naïve than she thinks. In reality although her beliefs are strong she can be manipulated quite easily by one who is skilled in such arts. She strongly believes in social order and the need for it to be upheld. She is a snob but also somewhat insecure around those of similar status due to the questionable nature of her family’s wealth. She is therefore not particularly comfortable in anyone’s company. She gets on a lot better with men than women, largely because of a good relationship with her brothers and a poor relationship with her mother. She is currently on good terms with her mother though, it is of more importance than she recognises that she please her mother. Jade has a thin skin and can take offence quite easily, anyone who makes it into her bad books tends to stay there. She has no guilt about the two murders she committed. Firstly she believes them to be just killings and secondly her focus during the act was so powerful that when she is removed from that situation it almost feels as though it happened to someone else. As if she watched it on TV or in a cinema. This points towards a growing ability to divorce herself from any wrongdoings she may partake in, without guilt to hold her back she could prove very dangerous indeed.

Peacemaker Profile

Name: Ryan Peace
Age: 30’s
Nationality: Unknown
Height: 6’2
Weight: 170lbs
Power: Muscle & Bone Inertia
Faction: Red Mist

Background:

Power

Has the ability to render anyone within a 100 yard radius completely inert. By focusing his power he makes the muscles and joints of those surrounding him completely seize up, making any possible movement excruciatingly painful. Ryan can remove individuals from his spell by performing a rather crude form of osteopathy on them. This power can be devastating in a one on one scenario against certain foes, but it is rather inconvenient when fighting in groups as he freezes any allies at the point of use and then must go around slowly breaking people out of the spell. He is aware of the great advantages his skill gives him and therefore has not made any real effort to improve general fighting or weapons skills, always feeling that if he were to run into problems he could use his power to get himself out of it.

Psychology

Ryan derives great joy from freezing people and toying with them, he loves the power it gives him and the opportunity to tease his victims (or even allies) is never lost. He has used his gift for petty crime and is somewhat of the belief that he should be doing whatever it takes to make his life easier. He is not excessively violent however and is not cold-blooded enough to kill a victim – humiliation is as far as he is likely to take it. He does not care much for the objectives of Red Mist but likes the idea of the power and prestige that will come his way by joining them. Red Mist in turn see him as something of a loose cannon and keep him partnered with Jade Vendetta currently, an operative who is greatly trusted by the organisation. This partnership also works well because the killer instinct that Ryan lacks is more than made up for by Jade. Ryan is not a particularly motivated person, he looks out for number one and will save his own skin above all others. Without his power he would not be much use to anyone.
