I hope you enjoy it. Don’t worry the blog is remaining so I can keep everyone updated with filming and the storyline, I had just had a few emails of confusion from people who were unsure about the safety of buying from a blog, hopefully with the full site they will feel more comfortable. ENJOY!
Probably one of the most iconic portrayals in this genre is Helen Slater as Supergirl. Yes, it was quite a bad film but the casting was absolutely bang on. She played it with an innocence and occasional disapproving sterness that really impressed. She also had the look as the picture above displays. Possibly my favourite superheroine.
Here is a snippet from ‘The Making Of’ about the casting…
…and here is a vid of her doing some stuff in the movie.
Over the next few months I am on the lookout for comic book artists to help tell the story between video episodes, if you are interested in taking part then please email me at: revozred@yahoo.co.uk
I’d really like to see examples of your work and let you know what I need to make this whole project bigger and better.
It’s always fun to look around the genre and see what is being made. In Japan they have a tendency towards good production values and excellent costumes and at NGC I will be attempting to emulate that. One video that made a huge splash in the west was Astrogirl. It was an attempt at a Supergirl character and clearly meant to appeal to the western market. Astrogirl even spoke in English… kinda. Anyway she was pretty damn spectacular, if anyone knows how to get in contact with her let me know!
Here is a nice little vid put together by a friend of NGC:
I saw ‘GI Joe: The Rise Of Cobra’ the other day. I was looking forward to seeing Sienna Miller as the Baroness but probably got more enjoyment out of Rachel Nichols who played the feisty Scarlett. Of course the character was a bit basic, being an action figure after all. She starts off rather cold and unemotional but her little heart melts at the comedic antics of ‘Ripcord’ played by Marlon Wayans. In fact all he has to do is be a bit light hearted and also concerned at the right moments and he gets the girl… it’s so easy! The rubber catsuit above was a rather splendid idea and a nicely performed punch-up between Scarlett and the Baroness relatively early on in the film was a highlight. Look it was all pretty mindless and formulaic but sometimes that can be fun.
Loyalty is very important to us here at NGC and we want to reward the people that will take the chance on us and buy Episode One. So, ANYBODY who buys Episode One BEFORE we release Episode Two will be emailed a discounted download link 48 hours before Ep Two is put on general release, with a trailer of course. We’re working very hard behind the scenes to make Episode Two happen as soon as possible but we need your help to do it quicker. The reviews have been good, we are sure you won’t regret it.
You see a lot of photomanipulations in this genre, and the favorite seems to be Supergirl. The quality of the manips varies quite wildly but I must give much respect to Iskander Salim for this superb effort:
Go to his site and you’ll get an idea of his attention to detail. I do a bit of photoshopping etc.. but get bored after 10 minutes and just want it done, which means I’ll never get near this guy. Another lovely Elisha Cuthbert as Supergirl manip is this one:
Not sure who did this one but again it’s lovely work, would like to see more of this quality.
One of the best heroines in mainstream comics has to be Power Girl. Sure she is lesser known or appreciated than Supergirl or Wonder Woman but she is excellent all the same. There is some terrific fan art out there on this character and there have been some excellent fan films made. It would be superb to see Power Girl on the big screen one day but until then I can tell you that I particularly enjoyed this little vid:
I’m going to look at various themes in comic books and TV shows all the way through to fan videos. Sometimes I’ll look at powers and other times I’ll look at peril or defeat. The scene below is from the 1970’s Wonder Woman TV show. It depicts a gassing, which appears to be very popular amongst fans of peril:
The editing always makes me chuckle a bit from the shot of the guy turning it on her to her rather shocked face centre screen. Also if it could stop a herd of elephants if sprayed directly in the face, surely being in the same room after spraying it at all would make you a bit… well, woozy? Not these guys. I wonder if that guy was right that she can’t bother them anymore?
